What are REDA HPS pumps?

REDA HPS horizontal multistage surface pumping systems—commonly referred to as “hps pumps” or “h pumps”—are centrifugal pumps horizontally mounted on a rigid skid, which is often called a weldment.

A reliable, field‐proven, and cost‐effective alternative to conventional API Std 610 pumps, they increase pumping efficiency and reduce operating costs. Designed using ARZ abrasion‐resistant zirconium for high‐wear‐resistance bearings, the pumping system effectively handles harsh fluids and challenging installation environments.

Horizontal REDA pumps require no daily maintenance. The modular housing and flexible plug‐and‐play design enable simple, quick reconfiguration of pumps and motors and fast thrust chamber changeouts, minimizing downtime. All major components can be exchanged within 2 to 3 hours, compared with days or weeks for a split-case pump.

REDA pumps have a field-proven history dating back to the 1940s.

After inventing the electric submersible pump (ESP), Armais Arutunoff used the pump for surface applications, creating the first horizontal pumping system. The ground-breaking REDA HPS horizontal multistage surface pumping system has been manufactured in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, since Day 1.

More than 3,500 of our pumps are installed and operating worldwide in a range of applications. With customer input, we work continuously to expand usage in multiple upstream, midstream, and industrial applications.

Our horizontal pumps lead the industry in reliability. We never compromise on product or service quality and invest extensively in research and development. While there are many imitators in the market, operators regard us as a trusted partner, capable of addressing tough challenges. Our pumps broke new ground with CO₂, NGL, and amine applications and remain the product of choice in those areas. We continue to develop new products, such as the REDA Multiphase HPS high-gas horizontal surface pump—a solution for zero-flaring applications.

In 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic started, our Bartlesville Product Center (BPC) celebrated 90 years of building REDA pumps.

The first-generation REDA HPS pump was developed in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, by the REDA Pump Company, and it is still manufactured in our Bartlesville facility today.

BPC houses a small museum containing curated documents that span the history of REDA pumps, including original hand-drawn engineering sketches.

The former site of Bart Manufacturing, which later became the REDA Pump Company, is now occupied by BPC—a modern Schlumberger manufacturing facility that builds and repairs REDA HPS pumps.
