    Our industry has an important role to play in the global energy transition, and Schlumberger is evolving for that exciting future. Our vision is to define and drive high performance sustainably, sharing the responsibility to act now and to act fast to decarbonize the world’s energy system. Driven by our purpose, we leverage our passion to create amazing technology that unlocks access to energy for the benefit of all.

    Quantified decarbonization technologies

    Alongside decarbonizing our own operations and investing in new energy technology ventures, a key part of how we advance sustainability within our industry is by creating technologies that help our customers reduce their environmental footprint across the E&P life cycle. We have identified, qualified, or are in the process of qualifying more than 100 environmental-impact-reducing technologies and solutions within our existing and near-commercial portfolio. Currently, our priority for ongoing quantification is based on

    • reducing your CO2e emissions
    • reducing the amount of energy consumed during operations
    • electrifying infrastructure and enabling access to renewable sources
    • enabling surveillance, assessment, and control of your emissions sources.

    Our specific focus is on emissions reduction, which has the largest impact on climate change and is consequently aligned with key industry drivers.

    What are Transition Technologies?

    Fossil fuels have been our primary energy source for the last century, but the current approach to producing and consuming fossil fuels is not sustainable for the planet as average temperatures and CO2e emissions continue to grow. The Paris Agreement made this reality even clearer, prompting all industries—including oil and gas—to accelerate transition toward decarbonization and advance progress toward more sustainable solutions.

    Our Transition Technologies break down the barriers between traditional oil and gas technologies and new emerging energy solutions. This category makes visible the technologies that support the energy transition—not only through reducing your environmental footprint but also through delivering superior business results.

    We are quantifying our Transition Technologies based on the level of impact reduction. We have developed a set of attributes, which we have mapped to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, illustrating our support for achieving the goals and aligning with our customers on their sustainability objectives.
